Hair holds memories

Hair holds memories

A Poem by Efxaris Arampatzi
"

"Hair holds memories" is a poem about reclaiming identity, honoring past scars, and choosing your own path after letting go of what once held you.

"
They say hair holds memories
mine carried more than most suppose
Not just laughs or sunlit days
but battles I won close

Some scars lie on my body
some are buried out of view
I’ve worn them all in silence
unsure what I should or shouldn't undo

Today I've cut my hair
a blunt, short, fresh line
Not to forget the past
but only to say this moment is mine

I could embrace the marks
or let them slip away
Each and every path is brave
So I will choose my own, day by day

Well, it can represent cutting away the past; when a woman decides to do this. And, such an act can have emotive connotations.

From the different verses, you have made your own motives clear. Although laughs and sunlit days from your past are referred to, a key desire to breakaway from past negativities; seems to be the key motivation. In order, to become free to embark upon a fresh start in life.

As shorter hair is often considered to be less feminine, some might perceive this act as a little rebellious. Either, against conformity or femininity.

I believe what you have said, about your thoughts and feelings behind this act. And, understand that it is symbolic of a "new you".

The final verse, prompted me to think that you're a strong-willed young woman; seeking to make choices for yourself (and go your own way).

Your new haircut looks great!
Also wonderful poem, your work never ceases to amaze us. Cutting hair in a reference to cutting and moving on from the past is a powerful metaphor. Have a wonderful day and never stop sharing your wonderful words, my friend.

Girl, I'm so proud of you! I truly believe this, and I think hair has a property that carries energy. And I think it can really give you a fresh start, at least mentally. Even in ancient times, hair was a very serious element in shamans and magic. Warriors would cut their hair when they were defeated. And long their hair for the strongest. I think it really give some space to the body. Before my father died, I used to cry because I would never get my hair cut. The day after my father died, they took me to get my hair cut and I didn't say a word. Even though I was a child, I felt lighter. Thats still aa bad memory but still might be a proff :D.
I loved your poem so so much as always, Your poems always makes me talk, haha! thats so powerful i think. You are a great poet!

You portrayed someone who had to boost her self confidence, and she was very determined to do this.... even though she still may be hiding things, her perseverance to change her looks proved to be a good recipe for her self worth...a new look is usually welcomed positively.... Nice write!

This is such a beautiful and powerful poem. I really liked it. The part that touched me the most was:
"Not to forget the past, but only to say this moment is mine."
It’s such a strong and honest line.. It shows healing, not by erasing the past, but by owning the present. This entire poem shows and carries the voice of a strong women, it can be felt clearly in every line. Never give up and chose your own path. I trully loved it!
By the way, you look really pretty with short hair as well 🤗......

This is stunning. Gentle, powerful, and quietly defiant. You’ve turned a haircut something so ordinary into a profound act of reclamation. There’s no melodrama here, just steady strength. And that’s exactly what makes it so moving.
