Some memorials are made of ice.
This means the air around them
must always be frozen. Or, the least
desired outcome will come to pass
and the memorials will turn to water
and wend away. Or be absorbed &
and eventually forgotten when heat
does its work and all that is left
is bare-cracking earth. I never asked,
foolishly, what stone would be best
for building - only - moved by impulse
made memorials from the reachable. Fear
is an ice cliff. I fall from the summit
every morning. The wind of falling
cradles me and ice-blood creeps through
the hollow worms of my veins. I am
holder of ice. When my hand is
let go, I reach inside me, and sculpt
likeness. And tend the fogged mirror
of each new memorial ///////////////forever
