MichaelA Poem by Heidi AlfonzoA tribute to the King of Pop (1958-2009)
There was once a kid, Like any other kid, Who liked playing ball And to go for a swim. Instead he sang ‘till the wee hours of dawn, Pushed hard by a father Who just loved the dough. And the kid grew up, And boy could he sing! And boy could he move! He loved some Elvis, And the boogie and the blues! You name it, The kid knew it! Did he have some golden pipes! But, oh the pain, Like a cancer it grew fast. The stage was his And it exploded with applause; He outgrew his brothers And his sister pretty soon. He sang out loud, With a voice that was so his; And he got himself crowned As the king of somethin’ hip! But, oh the pain, Like a cancer it grew fast; And the kid kept getting older, But still stuck in his past. He looked pale like a vampire, With hair so strangely dark. What is up with all the make-up? And why are you looking so sad? Not one person in this world, Understood him really well… I don’t think that true, great friendships Ever came his way… And how about love? He married twice, alright… But the greatest of affections That…he only got from fans. He is an icon! He is a king! He is so amazing! Bigger than life! But the man in the mirror, Wished he had them wings So he could fly To build himself a home With the lost boys, Captain Hook and Peter Pan. Who would have thought He was so fragile? A heart so filled with dreams All shattered to the core; It’s okay now, kid… You are free to leave, You soul must soar; You’ll pack heaven for a jam That them angels should enjoy! Thank you, buddy, for Making my childhood so bright and for the videos And for the songs I learned by heart; Where you’ll be they’ll love you, Michael… It won’t matter if you are black Or white! © 2009 Heidi Alfonzo |
