A Vow of Remembrance

A Vow of Remembrance

A Poem by Heidi Alfonzo
"

a poem about the greatest love

"

Ask me not to love him, Mother?

My memories of him

Are far larger than life;

Usually your words and will I follow,

But this time alone I choose

To listen to my heart.

See the ocean, Mother

In its grandeur and splendor,

Yet he knows all too well

Its beauty he owes

To mirroring the skies.

Can we ask the moon, Mother

To choose another Sun

To keep her warm?

Life it’s wide,

And so are its adventures

And my soul absorbs

The gifts of each new day;

But, oh, there is love,

In its infinite complexion,

which makes a daring queen

Bow deeply as a slave.

Let me draw wisdom

From the words

He spoke in truth;

What we had ,

What it was,

It was all meant to be.

Worshiping his passion

With passion,

Doesn’t mean I’ve reached the end,

On the contrary,

This is where I begin.

So beautiful and powerful. So many strong lines in your poem. Whole poem was outstanding. Ending was perfect. We must hold on to our belief.
