This is what I got from those 3 lines ...
I have this image in my head of someone, strapped in a chair, eyes pried open while being shown confusing desert scenes-kind of like skeletal bones in the sand-over and over, with these quick flash messages about losing control-between each reel.

Yeah, O'kay so maybe I am a little crazy.

So anyway, and I loved the imagery of "harnessed thoughts" ... preventing the mind from wandering onto certain avenues. Telling ourselves not to think about this or that ... Kind of like keeping our thoughts like a dog on a leash and yanking them in the direction we want them to go ... because wandering can be frightening. dredging up memories can hurt and delving into memories forgotten but suddenly deciding to surface can be unbearable. This is wonderful Elii.

The pain subsides, but ghosts haunt. Trying to stem the thoughts, but not managing can in itself
be painful.........Once forgotten..........brings sadness. Beautiful writing............

It's a contradiction in terms, like although the mind has fooled itself that it has forgotten, the memory still lingers....and haunts....very cool!

The once forgotten is such a sad and yet beautiful concept. I really like this poem.
