Sailor Sonnet

Sailor Sonnet

A Poem by Ella Simone

Darkened depths and ghostly glimmer

Rolling hills of indigo

For weeks, my love, you’ve watched them shimmer

Thrash and crash and ebb and flow

Tidal temper, Neptune calling

Tell me all the things you’ve seen

Without you, days have been as sprawling

As those fields aquamarine

The savage waters twist and churn

Will your tide ever come in?

My boy, I wait for your return

To the open country of my skin

Sailor, sailor, out to sea

I hope you find sweet land in me
