RedA Poem by ellenThe color of love, romance, and connection. My heart beats red, Your heart beats redder, Any other difference between us it in our head, Race, religion, gender, doesn’t matter, Those are surficial issues and are nothing to dread, Please, look a little deeper, Past clothes that sit on skin, and muscles spread, Across bones and you will see everyone is connected not scattered, Veins, arteries, and capillaries fill us like garnet thread, Blood transports our emotions like lust and anger, That is how our hearts are fed, That is how certainty turns into something better, Because you want to share a bed, Because I want to send a love letter, You will have silk sheets threaded with maroons, crimsons, and every shade of red, While I have ruby ink pens scribbling on rose petal paper, All shades of red, Outlining us together. © 2018 ellenFeatured Review
