A short poem about lost friendships

The nostalgic waves of memories

Wash right over me

In rapid succession

A thoughtful obsession

The friendships of then

The ones I won't see again

The ones I thought I couldn't live without

That had never left me feeling doubt

But now it's been a few years

And I haven't seen you

Trying not to shed more tears

Wondering if you miss me too.

Memories so often test our realities -
with noon "midnights",
and midnight "sunrises".

The yearly "missing friends" toasts
don't get longer but the memories...
the memories take more consciousness
and the "stare" -
the thousand-yard stare
draws me to the abyss
and silently holds me captive
as all the hands beckon, reach, and wave -
until it's my turn to join them.

A sad one as we enter the final couple of days of 2023.
This time on year always has me counting my blessings and thinking of those that have toodled off to a peaceful place somewhere beyond the clouds.

Your poem reminded me of my Greek friend Pandora. She seems to have disappeared without trace. I fear she may not be with us on this plane. I have tried every avenue of contact without success. I miss her but remember with much fondness, the wonderful times we shared. Your sadness touched me. Thank you for sharing your poem Emily Rose.
