I Hate Slant Rhyme

During April, for National Poetry Month, my English teacher gave my class a bunch of poetry assignments, one of which was to write a poem in slant rhyme- a style of which I'm not that big a fan.

I'm not fond of slant rhyme

I'd rather let my mind and pen together roam

and write whatever I want

than use this ugly literary device

this despicable device which I despise

which for some absurd reason, the poet,

Dickinson, felt the need to popularize

It's National Poetry Month

and instead of reading Robert Frost

I'm complaining about Slant Rhyme
