Annie and Suicide

Annie and Suicide

A Poem by emily joe

I didn’t turn the water on
Or remove my clothes
But I lay on the shower floor

When I was 6 years old
I left a message
On my grandmother’s answering machine
I sang
“The sun will come out tomorrow”

It’s astonishing
How you never realize
How many household objects
You could use
To kill yourself

I removed the blade from my razor
And I let it sashay
Across the limpid cerulean wires
Of my willing wrist

I heard once in a movie
That if you cut side to side
You won’t die

So I traced up and down

I shouldn’t be surprised
It makes sense
That the worst pain I ever felt
Only came
Upon hurting you

The sun will come out
Tomorrow

I like that bit about hearing about it in a movie. What movie was that? Everyone has seen that movie, somehow.

So sad, and so real. Very well written.
