Brownsea Island, Dorset

A Poem by emmajoygreen

'Brownsea Island is a very special place. It is one of the few places left in the UK where you can catch a glimpse of a red squirrel. We estimate that 250 of these
iconic creatures live on the island and are often seen scampering up and down the
trees gathering and devouring nuts.

Look you ever romping, m' darlings
life's a bonny holiday near a drey
often hidden but home

Life this past year was awkward
weather erratic as was scatter
an' skittle by you..

Visitors travel safely by ferry to
see you in a stronghold with
with ' sea-moat' protection

Here you are safe from your foes,
those grey devils, a force aiming
to destroy you sans discretion

The views of your play at pleasure,
the sound of your click clicker clack
make for chuckles

A visit's gentility is a memory, a
return marked up in a diary, a
love affair with nature so near

There's a whimsy to this poem, as well as a mysticism in the cryptic dialect you're using that I had to read some lines twice to even attempt an interpretation lol. But from the first stanza, setting the breezy mood, to the final insurance that the memory is safeguarded, this is a ride. Smooth sailing along the shores of paradise.

My Red Squirrel is called Cyril and is a cheeky monkey. Well actually of course he is not a monkey he is a squirrel Cyril Squirrel, but he has a blond tail and he is cheeky. Sends the dogs spare. Or at least Bodhi. Eva couldn't care less. Unless he throws things at her. Then... I have a sign by my front drive that says beware Red Squirrels.
This is simply a lovely pean to nature.

Good morning. Have only ever seen red squirrels when playing golf in Perthshire, many moons ago. I spent more time in the trees than on the fairways.
Hope you are well

Dorset, S.W county of England. Where I was born and have always lived!
I just mentioned the scarcity of red squirrels the other day (think it was Nev's post)
Used to see them all the time and hum the mission impossible them at their acrobatics.
And now I've got an earworm of ...guess what?
