Brownsea Island, Dorset

A Poem by emmajoygreen

'Brownsea Island is a very special place. It is one of the few places left in the UK where you can catch a glimpse of a red squirrel. We estimate that 250 of these
iconic creatures live on the island and are often seen scampering up and down the
trees gathering and devouring nuts.

Look you ever romping, m' darlings
life's a bonny holiday near a drey
often hidden but home

Life this past year was awkward
weather erratic as was scatter
an' skittle by you..

Visitors travel safely by ferry to
see you in a stronghold with
with ' sea-moat' protection

Here you are safe from your foes,
those grey devils, a force aiming
to destroy you sans discretion

The views of your play at pleasure,
the sound of your click clicker clack
make for chuckles

A visit's gentility is a memory, a
return marked up in a diary, a
love affair with nature so near

Protection we must of endangered species; we must provide their sanctuary with all the help needed even tossing their favorite acorns to feed them properly. In Alabama, it flows with different types of squirrels; I watch them along with them competing with birds at my two large bird feeders. I have plenty of chipmunks, too.
Glad you are raising our awareness Emmajoygreen.

Here in Michigan. We have black squirrels, brown squirrels, grey squirrel and the red squirrel. I was told once. Someone brought them to Michigan. I feed the squirrels in the neighborhood peanuts. Year around. The big brown ones will knock on your door for more peanuts. I enjoyed your tale. Good to fall into the beauty of nature dear Emma. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
