Laughter maker

Laughter maker

A Poem by emmajoygreen

I wait
hand across lips
to stem my laughter
whispering
to an immovable monolith
stood rooted on an incline
yet - somehow
historic reminder of a leather
bound index
features clear, eyes dear
 lips ajar as if saying,
'future tense,
present when can
  for-what-comes
next

Dear EM
A lovely thought process here...a monolith doesn't move, but may remind you of something valuable in the past...now the present...but what about the future? that is the question...well time moves on, even though the monolith remains stable, you've juxtaposed the past, present and perhaps the future....in your ever clever mind! Always
and
Warmly, B

A really unique and interesting blend of imagery and metaphor here, Emma! There is an air of tension between stability and change, as represented by the monolith and the speaker's anticipation of what might come next. The weight of knowledge and experience, as symbolised by the leather-bound index, is a heavy influence on the present and future. As always you express clear attention to detail and imagery and the structure is also very interesting, with a blend of short and long sentences creating a sense of flow and pause.

What a fine review, thank you so very much. Will reciprocate later this evening, Billy.
My first thought was the monolith in the movie 2001 space odyssey then I thought of the old tower of computers that replaced leather bound indexes but I am sure that the metaphor goes far deeper and represents how that past is known but the future is not so what this is in this poem is not know either. A lovely write

You too dear friend
Emma,
I don't know why, but your image makes me want to imagine the incline as a sandy bluff overlooking the sea, been there so long time itself is twisted.

This makes me think of a historic ruin that is left standing alone so it looks out of place and slightly comical because of its surroundings. I enjoyed the description of the clear features and mouth slightly ajar
