this poem reminded me of the old Chinese story of the 'Foolish Old Man and the Mountain'. As the story goes, there was this old man who built his home next to a mountain that blocked his view of the land beyond the mountain, so he began to dig up the mountain. The villagers laughed at him, but he continued on. He said, I may not achieve much, but then there will be my sons, and their sons, and their sons after me and one day, in the future, the mountain will be gone." The point I imagine is that any 'unmovable object' can not predict what the "future tense" holds for its fate. Or, old things/relations/traditions can and will be replaced by new things/relations/traditions in the future. Such has been human history.
Thanks Emma, for your enjoyable and thought-provoking poem.

My thoughts. Fate has it's own plans; perhaps expect nothing but sleep in hope and otherwise hold peace and breath! Methinks human history makes hard work of past and present but smiles at its own thoughts about the future! Tis the court's jester making Mankind the fool.. at times! :)
First thought was you have snuck over your nearest border into Wales, Caerphilly to be exact and are or remembering seeing the late great Tommy Cooper staue.
But I'm only assuming the leather bound book would be from This is your life and I don't even know if he appeared on that show!
I wonder of anyone else is picturing you with hand over mouth giggling like you are in a Bronte sisters production... perhaps Emma-ly! 😃
Ps...Oh, were you in Ireland looking at the host of This I'd your life, Mr Eamonn Andrews statue....
Or, we're you somewhere in the world looking at a statue of someone who made you laugh?
Has Stan Laurel even got a statue and where is it?
Is it a film? How many words? 😃
PPS.... its Stan Laurel isn't it? Its in Ulverston, which I believe is your neck of the woods!
Phew! Knew I'd get there in the end. Thank you Google!
