to sleep or not to sleep - where!

to sleep or not to sleep - where!

A Poem by emmajoygreen
"

words in the hush of night, drowning the sound of a slowly moving storm..

"
sleep is happier in armchairs than bed
at times
there's something warm 'bout the  old
clock's tick

had been my gramma's, given to me
when I was twenty-three

there's warmth in the flame of fire doomed
to fade to ash
yet, a sad exchange of vivid flames with
that slow pale grey

tis fact - grey saddens, yet schools use
that colour more than any other

morning is slowly dawning, curtains show
a shot of the morrow
no more room for sweet dreams til another
doze in that chair

comfy, cosy, always dozy and more, saves
making the bed: hug cushion,'stead of pillow

my problem - wakes me with stiff neck thus
loudly exclaim : 'I told you so!

I could sleep where its cold but I would better sleep with you then I won't be cold. I think a compromise makes one.
Thank you for sharing.

Lol to be or not to be its what confuses me.
We are right there, experiencing what you do through your word picture. The storm, the clock, the fire, are all as much parts of of the quiet drama as the cosy chair and its occupant. Nourishing read.

Dear Em
love comfy chairs...could easily fall asleep... sometimes wake up with stiff neck, all crumples in the chair... yet if it was my Grams's chair I could sleep all night...and on a gray day for sure...reading a book or just daydreaming....you peaked my loving memory of my Gram, many thanks
Hugs across the pond!!!
Warmly, B xoxo

warm indeed. it's always willing to receive us even when life doesn't seem cooperative. a true tragedy that bodies don't rhyme in armchairs but where would life be without such? no better place especially 'neath a blanket when not feeling well or on cold, tired evenings. my dad's recliner was near sacred, i remember it so well. well said and thanks for the comforting memory!

To sleep in your comfy chair, instead of the bed. To hug a cushion instead of a pillow. No bed To make. A nice cheery poem.

☺️☺️ You're welcome, my fellow poet. Thanks you for liking my poem.
Ha! Love the "not merely to rhyme" moments that flip into "perhaps solely to rhyme."
And of course after waking comes movement, where all those told you so's come to life as you straighten self and perhaps a groan escapes as your body moves and realises sleeping in concertina mode was not the best idea.
It does always seem a grand idea until that nerve in the back wakes way too loudly or you try to infringe your neck! 😀
