Breathe

Sometimes it seems like apathy is the safest choice.

Breathe in
my mind is a desert
meditating, isolated, in the sand
far from any oasis.

Breathe out
my heart is the tundra
an icy fortress
with inescapable walls.

Deep breaths
just in and out
fill my lungs with apathy
try not to drown

but your ocean is too vast
I feel myself weighted
sinking down to the dangerous depths
of caring, longing, and fear.
