I MUST IF I AM HERE.

I MUST IF I AM HERE.

A Poem by Emunah June.
"

i whisper into morning coffee, 'If only I had known!"

"
through amber glass
and misty eyes
comes a thought startling still:

i have no idea who you are.

i caught some glimmer on a warm summer's day,
when the leaves fluttered silently
and between two shadows came
a glinting silver
and frosty gem
upon bended knee.

and no one spoke quite right away,
to let memory cascade betwixt trembling lips
and shifting gaze;
that may answer be given in sincerity.

they let autumn cloak the road beyond the trees.

and if i had known that familiar faces
would give way to snarling strangers,
shattered glass and severed strings,
that treasure offered
would have died in the dirt.

heavy is the hand that holds the scepter,
the guide to the steeple, the planets misaligned.

i whisper into morning coffee
if only i had known
i would be so far from here
that the stars in my eyes
would have lit the fire beneath my feet.

but if we're being honest,
the chaos i should adore
for surely,
i must
if i am here.

I love the contrast between the chaotic elements and the homely, wholesome ones. Well done.
