IDOL OF ANGER.A Poem by Emunah June.within your autumn eyes and hellfire gaze stands before you an idol made from flesh and folly. you touch its skin with heated passion, the fire in your heart producing magma in your veins like a map from here, to there, to anywhere sound and burning the grounds you don't understand. you were my home my hands, my eyes, my womb an amniotic safe space for every feed and every failure. you held my hand to kiss away every fever and gave me every word a discovery of blood between my thighs. you found me you shaped me you created me. and yet . . . you bow before this idol a self righteous ruby of immolation. a platter of sacrifice with your worthwhile relationships at the center. and here i scream "oh mother, why!" but no response to ever be met. we make of game of you holding tight the affections i break my limbs to chase. to drink my own blood if it would make you smile. to forfeit my finances in exchange for admittance of pride. two souls enmeshed in psychological warfare. two bodies embracing with knives behind their backs. we are so bad, but searching so dearly the escape routes within each other. i am twenty eight years too late to recognize the umbilical binding i have never severed, and all directions to feel so foreign. every language i could learn will not bring you to my table. we are victims of babel. so mother, with your idol of anger i pray it keeps you company. i pray the fire from every argument keeps your hands cold in the winter. for i have a little girl within me who seeks to heal from decisions she never made. © 2025 Emunah June.Reviews
