TENDER SUMMER MAY.

TENDER SUMMER MAY.

A Poem by Emunah June.

an ivory mind
and the touch of tulle ;
tender summer May,
when everything changed.

where i mumbled "is that me?"
to a reflection dressed in white,
fingers tracing anxious florals
on fabric never worn.

i knew who I was now,
but not who I would be this afternoon.
who was the woman
i'd dreamt of, but never met.

( not formally, anyway,
but she visited my dreams
many a time! )

and i knew you,
sweet autumn eyes,
would find me in this moment
in frozen what-could-bes.

booklets of words
we meant and always said
felt heavier in the mouth
pounded at the teeth

begging to be spoken,
once more
with different taste.

i always knew i loved you,
but not as much as i did
in that tender summer May.

where i sputtered "is that you?"
when i saw you standing there,
a knight on the stone steps
of a kingdom meant for us.

you held me, and you knew
that despite who i would be
it would never change who i was
to you.

every word felt more true,
and every gaze a thief in time,
where you gifted me your name
and i never felt more elegantly dressed.

so here we,
sweet autumn eyes
a crown on our fingers
linked back to this

and when i watched her die
under pearls and primp,
i took her place
and came alive.

I never thought about a wedding like that
The lady dresses in all her finery white dress > All her friends are invited
You attend as a miss >??? go through a rigmarole
At the end you are no longer miss

You are now Mrs something or other
That now sign your name as Mrs

You also share your life with that person
You share everything now your your bed
your body
your whole being

What a beautiful, beautiful mystery! Here's my translation:
TENDER SUMMER MAY. The author is gazing at a wedding picture of her beloved's widow, contemplating what her own life would be like had she married him instead. She discusses with herself and then with her beloved to be, and the intended actually comes to be. I love this! You are so able to project thought and words into FEELINGS. A great POET! Thanks for posting!

This is such a beautiful poem...As if a beautiful dream that opens into a blessed, grounded reality. The concluding line is awesome to contemplate.
