MILK & SUGAR.

MILK & SUGAR.

A Poem by Emunah June.

we work to survive
in a world not built
for hands like ours.

stomach ache
and pockets clean
to set the tables
for the people with money.

i am tired.
you are tired.

we come home to
a house unkept,
dishes stacked in a metal sink
we've ignored for some time.

and i can't remember
what the sun looks like,
just the moon
on the drive home.

and our bodies ache
for the sake of pay,
stretched over a sofa
we'll surely fix tomorrow.

but every penny
from every shorted check
won't compare to the joy

of mixing milk and sugar
in your travel mug
and standing by your side
to face it all together.

And in order to get that sunless, joyless job you need to go to an interview and answer the world's dumbest question of "and why do you want this job?"
Now I don't know what the people in those jobs said to get the position, but I'm guessing it wasn't "money, of course" as their answer.
Perhaps they just said they have OCD and lobe cleaning up after people, while going without sleep and not having time to have a life themselves, let alone enough time to clear their own dishes!
I did hear a nasty rumour that people just smile at work to receive tips to make up for the dismal earnings they make, but if that's the case why don't I hear it on the news that a thousand lousy tippers are murdered for being loud, arrogant and boorish every single night of the year?
Ps... tip generously. It might just save your life one day! 😃

Hi,
We believe together it's easy maybe but alone is horrible. Being together is not wrong but alone is like milk and sugar, you even can't see but you feel the taste. But few people think because of you me I am great and then struggle starts. Once you get mixed you never be you will be in every molecule of sucrose and lactose...
Thank you for lines.

I am so glad! Thank you so much for the review!!
it travels from drained and beaten at the beginning weary bodies, depleted pockets, a feeling of sameness to warm and softly hopeful at the conclusion, where communal love and tiny rituals impart meaning even in adversity.

It's the journey from heaviness to comfort.

I love your work
Oh what a picture you paint
Of a person working hard
To give rich strangers
Good food

A clean pleasing environment
Shining cutlery
On stiff white - newly ironed
Table cover

At home you are too tired
Too much to make a good meal
Or wash the dishes
Put them on the pile

They inspect
Your work place
Even behind the scenes
No body cares about

You
Your home environment
You don't matter
Yare there to serve

Them

Nice write
Love it

I like being retired because I own me now.
I still teach because I choose to, but my time belongs to me.
And I am better off financially than when I was doing two jobs.
I can sing that old Lesley Gore song..."You Don't Own Me"---
Coming home to that sink full of dishes because we are going from one job to another....that is not living.
