CITY ON A HILL.

CITY ON A HILL.

A Poem by Emunah June.

blood spilled
cares little for the vessel
it once called home.

it cares deeply
for intent, by barrel and blade
cradled by unholy ground.

a call to arms
or arms to call home?
what have we decided today?

i care little for the vessel.
i care deeply for
the city on the hill -- silent in observation.

residents call
the immortal question

"so, what happens next?"

Author's Note

Emunah June.
A little bit of self reflection today, the day after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This is less a political piece -- whether you agreed with him is irrelevant to me -- but more wondering what we as a country will do now as a result. What happens next?

A fair question. And a thoughtful piece. I care little for violence myself, and shake my head at these times in this country.

"Blood spilled cares little for the vessel it once called home..."

I had to say something. Violence is never right. No matter how deep the differences. Violence just kills the cause it was meant to fight for. No one sympathesizes with it once blood is spilled for it. Its becomes a lost cause. And the cycle of bloodshed begins.

"a call to arms
or arms to call home?"

You've asked such a profoundly important question here. We are always given a choice and the wisdom to chose rightly.

A beautifully written and such a timely poem!

What next? We trudge on, looking back once in a while to see what we left behind -- and if we are being followed. It is as it was, just different players upon the stage. And now it seems we must find another stage! Egads!

Your piece is nicely written but I fear you are inviting social and political commentary. This country, the U.S., has just gone insane. Half the populace and the president for sure. My brother strongly condemns the shooting of Kirk, yet he himself has a secret cache of weapons and ammunition that he collected for the overthrow of the govt under Biden. I believe he himself would have happpily assasinated Biden if he had had the chance. Millions and millions think like him. Things will only get worse while Trump is in office.
