NARANJA.
A Poem by Emunah June.
sweet citrus flavored irony in spring rain and summer swells, through wet slick and autumn eyes i see it now, and where we are.
to navigate this jungle mine is metallic tasting lemonade. refreshing, how forgetful your words from the night before.
but i cannot forget.
i cannot forget lips like yours moving in shapes like that, hot blades, cold ice.
my pomegranate heart is clamped inside your jaw. my cheeks are melon pink, my eyes vacant and forlorn.
how i love my executioner a kiss of pungent lime, replacing all the calories i burned in aching sobs.
morose naranja, come find me in the sun, a miracle of nature, a figure lost in fog.

I had an argument with my husband a few nights ago that really got my head turning, so, here I am, just kinda getting these thoughts on paper.

Fantastic work, Emanah! The sensory imagery and metaphors are wonderful, evoking tastes, textures and incredible visuals. (Autumn eyes, melon pink cheeks, figure lost in fog). There’s a palpable sense of longing and vulnerability to your words, and an almost violent emotional capture with the line ‘my pomegranate heart is clamped inside your jaw’! There's also a blend of irony and forlorn sorrow woven in, and a hint of dark allure (my executioner). I enjoyed the fragmented, almost dreamlike structure and how it created a wonderful flow, fitting for capturing disjointed emotions and the confusion of your intertwining reactions of attraction and hurt. Masterful stuff!
