USHPIZIN.

USHPIZIN.

A Poem by Emunah June.

you are
welcome
at all my tables.

come wine
and come whine,
in purest delight.

holding hands
under stars
slipping through fishnet

holes in the galaxy
so they can land
in our eyes.

in the sukkah
we are family
from different veins

and different times
but never changing,
technicolor siblings.

let us eat our meals
in a dwelling
meant to blow away

another day.
today,
we feast.

Emunah,
Nothing like someone else's delicious table to excite the night... I'm reminded of my Italian friend, Buddy, all those years ago where everyone was welcome to his long family dining table. there would be his family of five and another five almost strangers invited by one or another sister or brother. There was a bottle of wine between each couple and by the end of the meal there was laughter, dirty jokes, and Asti Spumante for desert.
Hospitality is a blessing in a crazy world.
