the little shop of second hand emotions

the little shop of second hand emotions

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the little shop of second hand emotions

you drive me to pleasant

insanity,

a cuckoo conundrum

i am significantly consigned to your love

like i am borrowing shelf space in your heart

selling myself to your eyes

and you keeping every penny of my thoughts

such a beautiful proposition,

let's close the shop

draw the shades,

and divvy up the proceeds.

"Cuckoo conundrum" brings to mind the pseudo-intellectual who hired a psychiatrist to fix his cuckoo clock.
Also, I see you've committed the grave grammatical sin of ending a sentence (despite the comma) with a "proposition."
Otherwise, good poet, yours is a crackerjack of an offering.
Outstanding!

Is it a wonder that poetry is the language of love? This poem emotes so perfectly all those things that are otherwise left unsaid in normal discourse. Love!

Like jesserose before me, I too loved the phrase 'cuckoo conundrum" - it just continues to bounce down the infinite stairs of the mind like a slinky long after the reading has concluded.
It reminded me of a song that my friend's father used to sing at family gatherings 'The Candy Store' - ahh, I hear evreyone now shushing the throng to hear it -
"shush....' Jacob is singing...

Totally unique. I had to go shopping after reading the first line. I wanted everything there. Just filled with charm. 'A cuckoo conundrum'...it's not just the alliteration it's so clever. Delightfully sweet read.

Oh very excellent reading of this piece. the title certainly fits the content that is full of the emotions of love; the kind of "in the heat of the moment need" to express and seal that love....enjoyed your expressions used here, for I could see everything being played out along with the desire that grew in the heart within each line of creative expression.

Could also be seen as a double entendre: of a greedy shop merchant that is very emotional over of his lovely shop making proceeds, filling another type of need...

depending on the mind of the reader.

Another great write!
