Sanctuary

Sanctuary

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Sanctuary

i sought refuge into you

my camouflage,

but the colors were substitute

they say "love the one you're with"

but in the safety of your heart

i was merely a moment away

from being somewhere else

and you deserved more than a house guest

for an emotionally busy weekend

you opened your door to me

and i accepted,

on false pretenses,

dreaming of a wilderness

chasing a prey

i knew i would never catch.

thus i step across your welcome mat

now,

reading it

and me,

upside down.

Loving the one you're with is fine if both parties know what the "rules" are. To be with someone because you know you will never have the one you want is cruel to the one you're with. Great metaphor. Lydi**

On false prensenses...I like the overall feel of your poem very much. A double agenda.

It has a raw honesty, cruel intentions, no regret.

Well done.

thank you for your words, Philip...

This is so good, on multiple levels. Don't we all feel, at times, like we are being disingenuous when it comes to love, especially when we have been around the block a time or two?

reading the welcome mat and you upside down-
really good ending to this one...

camo-
hunter stopping by-
in a false wilderness
where the prey... is already caged?

i liked it.

This is pure magic my fellow wordsmith! (in the safety of your heart i was merely a moment away from being somewhere else) I've know that feeling many times my dear friend. I feel honored to be able to read your words and feel your thoughts. ~Sharon

I sense an awful sense of guilty
Seeking refuge in a shelter
its not a choice

while real love
is

so the writer seeks sanctuary
thinking this is futile
and i need more

i guess

thats my take on this one

There are those who will always be our shelter when what we really long for is the storm.
But the storm never lasts and the shelter will always be there.

I love the last stanza of this poem, it's so beautifully written. It's a very interesting concept of stepping over the line.
Its a poem that hits me, yet i don't understand why. The distance is... mesmarisinig.

emotion starved and emotion jailed ... the dichotomy of men as we bob and weave but won't stay in the ring ;) ... a complex intelligent poem says i! ...speaks to many interpretations.
