Rio

Rio

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Rio

the guts of the sport,

sporting guts they travel

through murky waters,

depressed towns,

shaky surroundings to light the torch

the environment edged with fear

concentration constructed better than the buildings

the poor traverse towards the games

playing their own likeness in backyards of grit

fortitude swims upstream

eyes closed, protected pupils

of streetwise education,

dubious detachment,

they fight on

with karaoke breaths getting more rapid

the song of summer solstice

the guts of the sport

sporting guts

let the games begin---

and let them end

without incident

the flame stronger than ever

the medals warm to the hearts' skin.

That is a lovely poem. We all are eager about the Rio Olympics and wish to see our favourite stars shine and honour their countries. This piece is full of the excitement- exhilaration- that all of us share at this moment. Amazing one. Keep writing.

and hope they do it safely...for sure.

thank you, Vatsal...

I've got a feeling that Rio is going to get more attention than the athletes competing. It's really a shame.

yes, it is, James...a damn shame.

Well said. The athletes need to focus, but how could they not see what is around them? Especially with the entire world watching.

Yes...you're welcome.
Yes lets all hope no full on crazy s**t like what happened in 72 breaks out at the Rio Olympics. Just keep it to the regular crazy s**t like doping controversies and protests. Great poem

This event is just a burst of happiness to me
Nothing about it feels sad
It a time of the year where people can for a couple of days forget where they are from
to join into this spirit of clever competition

Your words bring the idea home :)
