nothing left for that rainy day
A Poem by
jacob erin-cilberto
nothing
left for that rainy day
swiftly
accumulating a piggy bank
filled with coins of
regrets,
life hasn't made the
sense
i hoped it would...
saving memories seems a
trifle now
all i spent on love, in
love and about love
no money back guarantees
for the heart
we put steep down
payments on emotions
and then live broke on
the interest,
or better yet, the
disinterest,
hardly a quarter left
for the gum ball machine
we stroll down memory
lane
panhandling for a few
golden smiles
but copper facsimiles is
all we get
and a ceramic belly
bloated
with compunction.

Great write, if we could put a price on love, what would it be. To begin, you run together. At the end, you walk away.

Wow I really loved this Jacob! This line especially really hit me "no money back guarantees for the heart" very well written, read a few of your other poems so far. Really enjoy reading your work!

Every loss comes at a cost well after the event, A clever write Jacob, Yes how we bank on the piggy back of loves.

An interesting metaphorical journey through life, love and loss... This is one of those pieces that speaks on multiple levels, and I like the originality of the ideas. We do often find ourselves living "broke on the interest,/or better yet, the disinterest", and that is a difficult place to be. I feel this one...well done.

Usually a full piggy bank would be a good thing. But apparently, not always. Excellent use of metaphor with relevance to our current economic and political situations.

It sounds like that piggy bank needs to be cracked open and spent on something frivolous - such a witty write as usual :)

thank you, Carolynn....:)
Oh piss-poor in the romance department. Can't live off disinterest. Your writing is always relatable, yet written in such a clever way.

and then live broke on the interest,
or better yet, the disinterest,
Brilliant line here, Jacob! We spend it all on love and don't realize we might need to keep a little in reserve. Again, a clever metaphor. Lydi**
