" derided emotion" How those words bite! We all want validation our words, feelings and lives have meaning. If we can't find that validation where we want maybe it's best to find it where we may. Either way, "there ain't no future living in the past". I enjoyed the read Jacob.

A flood of emotions, sometimes toxic water, too. If we don’t find higher ground, we’ll risk drowning in our own pity—so I’ve found. Past tense is the best way to move on, fleeing to the present.
Isn't interesting how one emotion ends, but another emotion always takes its place? Which emotion lasted longer, the love. or the scars of love? Well my friend, you are not in an empty canoe.
Past and future seperated by an impenetrable wall, dividing black and white, while the only colour of any description is the memories and what ifs playing on eternal loop within your aching mind.
Derided emotion is a fitting end Jacob. I have felt that one.
Did the grey day and rainfall conjure up negative emotions from the past? Lost love, broken heart and a reminder of all those tears once shed? The tears might have dried up now but the memories still flood back. That's where your lines took me Jacob.
