Drowned my sorrows--and, pretty much, my life--using other kinds of bars.
What can one say regarding heartbreak?
Been there; been done by that.
Work that declares an honest, though, unsettling, truth.
If we have suffered in love and felt the real pain of break up, it makes us wary to love freely again without restriction. We build our own cage with its bars to hold us back to ensure we don't end up in the same place twice. Clever poem Jacob.
The mind cages the heart, and perhaps that's why we call it "heartbreak" when things go badly. And, that Judge Eros, what a harsh arbiter. One of your most clever word plays, J.
Trial by error, trial by judge and jury, trial by love's fire. What a concept you weave sir Jacob. I hope you don't go to prison and be confined by 4 walls. I'll tell you what. We, your admirers will bail you out. How about that? just kidding sir.
I wish I could get a trial by a jury of my peers but it seems all that I ever peer is way above my standing leaving me a very lousy jury:) I keep many lawyers on retainer

It's a beautiful thing when the heart opens and loves freely without hesitation. When we get burned, however, we feel as if we can't trust ourselves. We, therefore, close ourselves off from the opportunity to love again. We want to, open the window just a crack, dare to take a breath, and then SLAM! We shut it against ourselves. We don't want to be a flight risk for love when the landing can leave us broken. Beautiful, Jacob.

thank you for your insightful and kind review, Linda,

Sometimes the trial comes but you are not allowed to call any witnesses ... you choose to represent yourself ... confirming the adage "you have a fool for a client".
In the end the jury is hung along with your hopes ... the cuffs are slapped on and the bars close in or close down and Eros closes the court.
I like this one quite a bit.
