Imaginary Number

Imaginary Number

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Imaginary Number

simple things

light

love

touch

complicated by

distance

quarantine

darkness

degenerate souls

using

failing

blaming

simple things

railroaded into

complicated things

people

lost in the equation

we become

the imaginary number.

Yes! I am so intrigued by the concept of an imaginary number. I was never good at math but this always made me think (that is probably why I wasn't good at math because I got all poetic and philosophical!). Imaginary numbers exist but shouldn't. Maybe like us?

The nouns that can't be counted - yet we try desperately to measure, prove and predict. So true that we become lost in equations, we like to overcomplicate the most simple of things. I really enjoyed this. Laura.

I wonder why we feel we have to do that...but yes, we do...thank you, Laura,

You're welcome
I have learned from this forced isolation and social distancing. I don't like it, I don't like it a bit. I long for the time when we can once again get together with friends, to be able to shake hands when we greet someone. To be able to talk, in public, and be understood. To start to go into s store and then have to run back to the car because you forgot your mask. The simple things - hmmm they aren't so simple are they?
Take care - good friend - Dave

I love the simple things that you mentioned, and miss them greatly. Thank you, Dave.

The imaginary number brings to mind all the decisions made at the top with complete disregard for the lives at street level. As if those lives can be ignored because they're so far removed.

they can't be ignored can they? Poets won't ignore them and we will speak for them.

Exactly :)
Distance, quarantine, darkness. We are not cut out for isolation. Social distancing will drive us all nuts. Touch, love and light is the stuff we need to function well. Vaccine needed soon. The loss of freedom is going to be so restricting :( We are people not numbers.

Hopefully the isolation will teach us to appreciate the simple things in life that as we know it are free when we get to the that line of normal.

The square root of a minus-one.
Human beings don't stifle, well.
Living in fear is not one of our strong suits, either.
Let our people go!
