Short Order Cook

Short Order Cook

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Short Order Cook

hyperbole makes me hyperventilate

orange lies from fire eyes

breathing bible scent

a pocketful of promises

long ago spent

depleting our accounts

but still listening to his

of accomplishments varied

while time bends against

his pomp and circumstance

as we watch our lives matter

not a smatter...

We are almost in dire straits because of them while they go on with their pomp and show. When do we own our power and plant a nice kick on their expansive behinds? About time, says I.

thank you, Dhara,

Its all empty promises and lofty claims. Such a false and hollow ring to all of it. This is a very relatable poem for people fed up of politicians everywhere.

All that seems to matter is getting re-elected by hook or by crook

I saw green eyes here, telling of a lost love to another, but I also saw orange politics and the campaign trail. I love poems that can be read on several levels. You can take your pick, where you want to go, depending on the mood you are in.

ah, the mood, yes,
thank you, Chris
I detect a certain reaction to the campaign trail in this one, and a scepticism about all the words from the stump (Trump-Lol) that are empty and meaningless. That first stanza really nailed it!
