bit players

bit players

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

bit players

a Shakespearean energy to our words

we breathed each other's lines

into a play

that neither of us understood---

we knew there was a theme

to what we were

but act II

was not in the program

and we were only props

on a barren stage.

I had images of innocent teenage love and the uncertainty of it all and where it would lead to.

There seemed to be no sense of direction and no proper plot. Just the overall theme that seemed grand at the time and so we fell for it, little knowing there was no Act II at all. And it all fell flat from there.

Its a pleasure, dear sir!
Great use of metaphor here Jacob. Props on a barren stage, that is so unsatisfying. Sums up a failed relationship so well my friend.

Wow! Yet another metaphorical tale as the mystery of love is embedded in the cameo of Shakespearean actors. So apt Jacob.

"...props on a barren stage": powerful portrayal.
"bit players" radiates sadness.
