graduating to nothing

graduating to nothing

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

graduating to nothing

it's a cold day in hell,
and New York and
really in Chicago
the lake wind is Beelzebub
dressed in a white capped gown

our country is freezing
even in hot Florida
where the covid flies in the face of
vulture  skies

they wait,
for the short breaths
the terrified screams of family
the insolent back turning of
the Eagle

can you see him
wings dyed a colorless hue
his span incredulous
shadows make the days colder

we are all frozen to our belief
that people matter,

and he can hardly fly anymore
he is laughing so hard.

Business comes first where the Eagle is concerned. In a caring society you would like to think that people have priority. Both in the States and the UK the deaths have been unacceptably high. You have to ask why. Strong write Jacob.

I like the tone here. It reads with fast a succinct tongue lashing. I dont even watch the news anymore. Same garbage and nothing but venom from all angles and sides. I actually feel better from tuning it out. Great read Jacob.

Those cold days are fast approaching and the Eagle has been turning back for quite some time. It has turned its back on the people it seems ... the ones who should matter ... but then he pushes the narrative that others are more important ... very Orwellian in the simplicity.
Shut the world down ... terrify the populace ... control the re-openings to keep the people from catching on to what is happening.
We can only hope there is an answer to be had when all this s**t is over.

Take care be sate friend.

A dark and almost dystopian view held in metaphor rich verse. The back turning might be covid deniers but indeed the country is melting and questions need to be asked about closing life down to save so few lives. I guess this is another thinker from you Jacob.

thank you for your words, John,

to suggest we are in a pickle would be an insult to the near science we have created out of downplaying .. except for a couple of very senior political leaders who have a habit of exaggeration and of spreading false truths for personal gain...

Nevertheless, we are in a pickle, a big one and unless more folk start saying it as it is then all my optimism for the future is gonna fly out of the proverbial window ...

There really needs to be a change of mindset and of governments and a whole lot more joined up thinking and sharing of values ... Together we can eventually beat any threat providing we can work together ... some of us think similarly jacob .. for others, you may just have poemed an eye opener ....

The imagery you use here is very powerful, emotive, vivid, and captivating. A 21st c. gothic poem. E. A. Poe would be proud!
