A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

11:58 p.m.

i am almost midnight

how is your moon?

quarter heart

the light in your eyes

is dimming,

there is an eclipse of lies

thank you for the night shade

i never want to see my heart again

i reach for you in the darkness

touch nothing

excuses abound

she's close, i almost love her

i am almost midnight

you lie in your quarter moon

i am the black truth

you trip over in the dark

a brutish litany ensues

i never want to see my heart again.

i am almost midnight.

This poem is like a black hole to me, it pulled me in and made me think. It's deep and wonderfully written in poetry.

"i reach for you in the darkness
touch nothing
excuses abound
she's close, i almost love her
i am almost midnight
you lie in your quarter moon" beautiful stanza filled with emotion. tyfs

thank you, Cyprian,

Excuses abound in the dark. Not s good feeling to be the black truth and the source of angst. Better to be nothing at all.

Much like that Doomsday clock that is always foisted on the psyche in times of extreme peril, so too is the uncertainty here ... do we? don't we? What will be the outcome?
The writer knows all too well "the black truth" that is tripped over in the darkness, and there comes an age when tripping over love in the dark can be dangerous for body & soul.

Kinda like love finds Andy Hardy

thank you for your insightful words, Ted...and I loved the Andy Hardy movies...Yes.

I envisioned here a man tossing and turning to the brutality of the recall of what was once love and a safe place. He feels his 'heart' breaking over and over. Unfortunately for the writing type (good or bad) the flesh, especially the heart is weak Jacob!

thank you for your words, John,

But no matter how much you don't want to see your heart again, it always returns to your line of vision. We are human and we need love. There's a lot of pain in this one. Lydi**

Thank you for your understanding review, Lydi.

With all the lies, the darkness and the denials that go on in a relationship, who would want to see their hearts again. One gets sick of feeling anything except distant and away.
