Everybody has some opinion, as we are very opinionated. It's good to have freedom but to what extent and for whom. As you rightly said love is the cure, as it was from the very beginning of race, religion, etc. If the difference of opinion is for the betterment of society then this notion has a welcoming effect. But this will be just another idea if it fails to unite us...

"What say you" ...Aragorn speaking to the dead in Lord of the Rings ;) I love that line and as a title to your poem most certainly drew me in, jacob ...i feel that angst and sadness in your lines ..and a certain temptation to despair ... so its emotive .. i clearly read the sharp social commentary .. especially in these:
"freedom is a notion
a potion for understanding"
i first read "A Nation of Sheep" by William Lederer back in the 60s .. its a book that remains stuck to me ;) the spoken word is overly powerful when anger and hate are its base .. severing us from one another and our selves from our souls ... but i do hope the potion coming forth will work its magick and more ... as for this country .. the USA .. we are long gone down a dark road ... we kill our babies ... push mind altering drugs on our youth and beyond .. we collect taxes on vices that creat addictions ... i don't know jacob ... i say that hope now is being compressed into ever small spaces .. i say there is a reckonning upon us already ..my first read this morning was Annette's "A Tree" poem .. all about hope and joy and possibilities because Jesus Christ, God's one true Son came into the world to show us what to do ..love the Creator first and entirely, love and forgive ourselves .. and love our neighbors in the same fashion .. so easy right!? not .. we need all the chances we can get eh!? love that title ... your poem makes broad strokes loaded with poignant social comments ... provokes my thoughts sir!

So much truth in what you say...but you really draw me in with your Strider reference...as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are absolutely the best thing in literature I ever read...I want a horse like Shadowfax.....must have a horse like him...
Then I could be Gandalf the White...my hair is already there. I hope to get responses like this when I write...means I pushed a couple buttons.
thank you, E.

It's difficult to reattach our hearts. Much easier to stay detached nowadays... Love the juxtaposition of "deference" with "difference" in the following line. I had to read this twice to truly appreciate that one. Thanks for sharing.

thank you for reading and for the kind comment, Diana,

We are becoming so detached, physically, emotionally and spiritually because of technology, there appears to be no humanity anymore, no kindness, no honesty, no helping people, just show me the money. And the impatience, frustrations, and less tolerance has brought about escalating levels of rage and hatred. Where is the love maybe a thing of the past!
I say you are worthy of many poetry plaques to honor you. Your message is always true and universal. You bring love, healing and understandings between people, races, religions, philosophies. Many great lines to quote sir. Happy Holidays.
awesome wordplay brother Jacob (you know how much I love that stuff:) And hatred how I loathe hatred this is a great message for these times human nature has been killing us in droves time to get some nurture in out natures my friend! Nicely penned ponderings:)
“deference is human
difference is human
hate is inhumane
human is the pain“
Your words are true and true J. Too much saying, not enough feeling, discerning, being human again. Your form, intricate rhyme, effective repetition, alliteration, metaphor-all stellar as usual for you. Masterful poem and message. Kudos!
