Tufts in the after

Tufts in the after

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Tufts in the after

I am wrapped in sarcophagus tears

dead loves don't rise with the setting sun

vampires drive stakes through their own hearts

when goodbyes leave them alone for eternity

I thought we were forever

but then your ephemeral feelings

became moribund moorings

tying me to a dying ember

Love, ashes, drawn sashes

my friend darkness

speaking to me in my own tomb

as I recede into the womb

of desolate desire

encrypted

bodies of

those paragons

of

virtue and trust

until the rock is moved

the light intrudes and

they wrap me in my own naivety

and laugh through

the entire eulogy

while my tears

smear the writing on the marker

and I become

"the unknown poet

welcomed into the belfry

reservation accepted.

The world is so unstable these days with threats from a China, Russia, climate change, covid, and isis I don’t think there will be any preservation of anything. This write oozes that like mortality, love also is mortal in the sense it never really endures the longevity of life. But then again the question rises are we really monogamists? And like all love’s we all experience that Romeo and Juliet scenario. Great powerful imagery in each stanza J. Great stuff!

Thank you for your kind review, andrew,

Well "unknown poet" dwelling in the belfry with the bats. These endless lockdowns affect us ... body and soul ... pulling and dragging at what limited sanity we still have.
How often have the "moribund moorings" tied us to something or someone we would rather escape ... kinda the old coyote ugly aspect.

The tufts in the title reminds me of upholstery in car rebuilds ... rolled and tufted.

I like the touch of Easter in verse 5 ... do you think that's what he thought when they rolled the stone away and he emerged blinking against the sun? or is it just me?

Good write j.
