Known Once

Known Once

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Known Once

I cupped a drop of rain

in my tremored hand

it slipped through my fingers

like the water it was

and the cool drip

sashayed in freefall

I wanted to be that drop

escape from the palm of memory

splash to my demise

stop the trembling

dry to the touch of grass

be absorbed in grounded ambiguity

so your heart no longer

recognizes a hand that once held yours.

Escape here. I felt the need of that drop of water to escape from the familiar hand into nothingness. Forgetting everything that had been. Wiping the slate clean. Pain does that to you J.
