Brunch Bouquet

Brunch Bouquet

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Brunch Bouquet

Christmas lights at the pancake house

plenty of syrup

but out of mistletoe

kisses are melted butter

your image in my water glass

no refill, please

I have had enough love

could use another napkin, though

to wipe off the vagrant lipstick

on my cheek

from when you said goodbye,

paid your check

and left me sitting alone

perusing the menu

trying to find something

to make me forget

we had proposed lunch

for later that day.

As I recall from my days as a mental health worker, many people got depressed during the holidays. Bad memories, nostalgia, etc. This offering is a prime example. Getting dumped sucks any time, but at Christmas, the pain must be doubled.

yes, even worse then.
thank you, John,

If there was plenty of syrup probably got hypoglycemic if you had a full stack...of her love!
At lunch. I'll watch for a poem about lunch?

How lovely. Pancakes. syrup and even vagrant lipstick on your cheek. I guess the mistletoe would have been an additional bonus :)

unless it fell into the syrup before the kiss.

Pancakes … with blueberries and Maple syrup… and Nat King Cole holding hearts with Christmas Songs and being there for Christmas Eve… with Chestnuts roasting on an Open Fire… listening to your Poetry… I conspire. Merry Christmas…. 🎄 Pat

Oh god, I truly love this. Pancakes and maple syrup are my favorite. It's sad that they ran out of mistletoe but ahhh the cheeky protagonist got the kiss anyway.
