Above the Blue

Above the Blue

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Above the Blue

mother, daughter
fire, water

ashes in an urn
the faucet one last turn

grief is the son she carried to term
at birth, overwhelmed, she tried to hold him

but the umbilical was a sorrow she could not cut
the fire a scar constricting her throat

words just fumbled
future poorly mumbled

at heaven's door a mutual expression
as two souls embrace
mother, daughter
fire, water

it is safe now.

Ok, I don't know if we are on the same wave these two days or not, but the new poem that was floating in my head from two days ago has some similarity to yours here. I should, I must, I can't not but address all what I see here, depression, suicide... on the other hand I see a stillborn baby. fire on the good side is life, is being alive, it's vibrate, while water quenches it. like death quenches life. I rarely mention my mother but she is fire, and when I say this I mean "HELL" fire, not fire the "life" I couldn't but see myself here as that Waters quenching it/her. wow! really I am stunned I never thought of this like that, Thank You for inspiring it in my head Mr. J! your emotive poem has few impacts in me!

It's your poem that inspired them :> You are more than welcome 🤍
A lot more "MORE" in your writing lately..seems to have grazed on emotion, shock, at least as far as I have read. A good turn at that professor. And the tug is one mortally horrific so to turn your page through experience or story or from wherever fresh hell falls from, life and death I suppose, is a brilliant heal...well, It's a damn good poem J.

So much emotion in this short poem. So much sadness. The outcome I felt, better late than never.

This was really moving. Felt every bit of the pain of a lifetime of grief, then the relief. Excellent resolution of the tension built in the body of the poem. Well written!

Jacob, you struck such a sorrowful chord with this. The grief you portray is just about unimaginable. My only feeling of relief is seeing that they both got to embrace in heaven. Such beauty, such power you have here.
Take care - Dave
