a certain branch of justice

a certain branch of justice

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a certain branch of justice

moving violations
the trees with suspended license
tipsy with drink from the storm
sway, then fall
the eyes of the leaves turn red
as autumn winds
incriminate

the azure sky in uniform
arrests---
the clouds hold court
frigid faces of the jury
abhor the damage done
the chaos incurred

the tall defendants
sentenced to the chipper
while God gets off with only a warning.

Absolutely brilliant J. I have such an affinity with trees, but you have excelled yourself with the metaphor here. Such a unique write and very funny too. I don't think I will ever be able to look at a tree battling a storm again without recalling this poem. A definite fav of mine. How I love this.

Now that's funny! "The tall defendants sentenced to the chipper while God gets off with only a warning." A hilarious take in the changing of the seasons. Nicely done, Jacob.
