What's Real---Priceless

What's Real---Priceless

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

What's Real---Priceless

in the mall of composure

purchased confidence

from shops with harmonic window displays

mannequins make eyes at each other

no reach,

no hugs

safely confined to their places

humans have real hearts

risky shoppers try to avoid the expense

of devastation

if the purchase does not outlive

its warrantee

but alas, we can move

to a position of acceptance

handle with care

the future might be forever.

This poem is priceless. The mall is a fitting theme where people congregate, shop, eat, drink, date, get sick like the outside world and the new realities we live in. We really feel motionless by this Covid epidemic, we feel like mannequins distanced from each other. We all seek those warranties but we can't get them. The price of health is high, the price of sanity is higher.
Wonderful as usual sir Jacob.

Wow! You are welcome sir Jacob.
The whole mannequin thing is such a great idea! Maybe like today's youth that only communicate through text. Stuck in their place looking at each other through camera lens but would never want to embrace.

mannequins make eyes at each other
no reach,
no hugs
safely confined to their places - I think this was my favorite part, but of course, I can't take it out of the overall context of your poem.

Nicely written. I like your analogy poems their warrantee doesn't expire. tyfs

thank you for your kind words, Cyprian,

A real feel of these modern times written within your words Jacob. I can see those mannequins gazing out of their shop windows.

Best wishes

thank you, Unspoken,

I prefer being the mannequin and their distant company but will be happy if we ever get to the point we don’t have to be so distant whether it be due to Covid or our own petty and destructive behaviors. I like the message in this.
