but a role

one does not choose

but is chosen for him

art builds houses

art builds artsy houses

 

a man's name

and a calling

art is an artist

artistically articulating

artifacts of paintings, poems, plywood

 

I have a house,

art hangs on the wall,

art is my choice

not my roll

but my role

 

articulating

while acclimating

to a calling

I would consider poetry to be my calling. It is a duty to be fulfilled. Mine is the job to make art accessable to people. I also have a mandate to preserve the traditions of my craft as well as push it's boundaries. Aristocracy? Well, maybe. But I see most as my equals and a few as better than me. This is a well written poem with understandable message. Nice! --- And when it comes to art, how many get lost in the meaning. The Baker is an artist, the cement finisher is too, the machinist, the Hand Former, the Ship Fitter, the welder, oh, and so many more that will never know fame for lack of the word in their duties.

Thank you for your words, my dad was a ship builder during WWII.....he and a buddy worked for Gibson Cox...they tried to enlist but were denied because they were needed to design the ships rather than sail on them.

I like the use of the word "ROLE and ROLL.... A role is a function, a position, a job; but a roll means you're choosing your passion and doing it extremely well, talented, I mean. So, I guess a role is something you do, or play. While a roll is a surge, a whirl, a gush....of creativity.
