a stillness

a stillness

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a stillness

in a state of exhaustion

letters tumble

sneak under a worn-out blanket

and close their eyes

words will have to wait

the next break of day,

the poet, strung out on emotions

cannot think two syllables together

creation is a cold dream

he writes in his sleep

but if he opens his heart now

it will just yawn, then nod off again.

thank you for your kind words, Beckie,

For a poet it's like waiting for a prophecy, a sign from the stillness.

yes, it is like that...
thank you, andrew,

Fatigue stifles the most earnest attempts at creativity. And yet, in a relaxed state, the most remarkable things can come to the surface. The lesson seems to be don't try to force it, just breathe and be patient.

thank you, John,

I really like this poem! Writers write even if it's in their sleep.

You are so welcome!
Still, sweet slumber finds a quiet place to be alone with your subconscious thoughts. I see that the words will wait until the marrow, tis good.

Yes but your letters are still tumbling my friend, mine dissolved. Respect the process they say. Blah blah blah, the answer is sleep zzzzzz as always a clever write of writing. You have a knack for it that’s for sure!

This made me smile! All too many writers, including myself can relate to this well written poem!

Burn out. I know it well. That is when we must become a fallow field. Nicely written, Sir.
