the turning away

the turning away

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the turning away

riff-raff poetry

begging handouts

a couple bucks of rhyme

to stem the tide

of "abab" starvation

a few quarters worth

of ancient Frost

a sliver of Browning

and where did it go?

to the bottle,

rather than the page

a vacant alley

stripped of meter

I put the words back in my pocket

and moved on.

We love what rhyme can do, though. Thanks.

yes, we do...thank you, Andrew,

Ah, such meanings in meanings, and easily seen, thanks. --- You might find "The Fountain in the Park" a more generous place. I hear that there are more giving souls, with songs in their hearts, strolling there. As for me, I shall find a secluded park bench, and with stars for a blanket, I shall dream of that Kingdom by the sea and Annabel Lee. :)

Amazing write Jacob
I’m sure his pockets are full of words
There is a movie I watched set in australia of a lady that recited poetry for coins I cannot recall it but when it comes I’ll tell you. A true story too
Love the ending how he walks away with a pocket of words enjoyed this

thank you for your kind words, and your message,

A year or two ago, I read an article about poets who type custom poems for money on city street corners. Somehow, this poem makes me think of that. Nicely done, J.
