out back by the storage shed

out back by the storage shed

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

out back by the storage shed

lovely nostalgia

grows like morning glories

dawn's awning

decorated slumber of pollenated memory

youth arises in the mind

the trellis of time ticks

the totality

of what is emancipated

after the seeds were planted

so many years ago

free to remember

free to nurture

or free to dig up

the parts that feel like weeds,

strangling what's left

of the smiles.

because at night,

everything will close up

and become silence inside the petals

the trellis of time ticks
the totality
of what is emancipated
I especially. like those lines
and fine alliteration in this
piece

our aging minds become
storage sheds with the
nostalgic thoughts and
memories..ghosts
of the past surface
best to dig those weeds out
as always another great write

(free to remember free to nurture or free to dig up) Seems I've been doing some digging lately Jacob! Good write as usual. ~Sharon

I guess digging is good....thank you, Sharon,

I'm not sure where this was intended to take me but I felt the effects of ageing, especially since the unusually heavy snow of this winter finally collapsed an old shed and a rotting, vine smothered trellis

I love this and that line “trellis of time ticks” is so brilliant!

Thank you, Patricia....you are always encouraging...

A look at one's youth. Strangling smiles? Do I want to know what sadnesses sparked this line? Sometimes the memory of those sweetest smiles is all that sustains me. Those days when I want to throw in the towel. But I have to ask what those who smiled would want me to do. And that is what keeps my pen going. The memory of those smiles.

it is a good thing to keep the pen going, for sure.

It's wistful and poignant, but without a hint of sloppiness in sentiment or construction. This piece has the goods.

This flowed like an aged scotch across the tongue. "because at night, --- everything will close up --- and become silence inside the petals" Such a great poem full of heart.

Oh my, this is STUNNING. It's a new favorite of mine from you. I can't explain how it touched me at my heart. It's beautifully written and tenderly expressed. This is life from a lovely, sweet perspective...perhaps well worn, but like an old pair of jeans that are the most comfortable things we own. Here's to beautiful memories and treasures of a life well lived. I so enjoyed!
