an unaccustomed war

an unaccustomed war

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

an unaccustomed war
i had scraped my knees
on the sixties,
and then fell into the seventies
blond bombshell love
while bombs were dropping
in a scattered Nam
our signs questioned
while our signs intersected
you were my companion in arms
as we raised them in defiance
we were spun together
like a ball of twine
as we sat in little hubs
drinking wine
imagining the eighties
might be an escape into each other
and away from war
but we had our own war
the seventies blown apart
before we could deescalate
withdraw from what ailed us
my knees still ache
all these years later
as I bump my heart
into 2022.

Life is a battle of give and take especially when one heart becomes two and the lines drawn are constantly changing. in a tug of war.

Oh those durn wars, there was the Redheaded Skirmish, then there was the Big Bertha Battle, well, you know, LOL. --- As you can see, this poem brought back some visions and thoughts. :)

But what about the 90's and the 0tt's. And the most recent decade already forgot. How did it feel to rhyme a little? Did you have a physical reaction? I like how you turned your end back on your beginning for completion

War times help define our relationships as much as the seasons, our work, our other relationships and then repeat because we are ignorant beings with short memories and here we go again, new war with new relationships and old memories in the mix with a new generation to add to the poetry

thank you for your insightful words, Patricia,

Sadly sniper fire in relationships can turn into a whole load of hostility. Warfare of any kind is so destructive. I think most of us have experienced the hurts that come when a relationship ends. I don't know of many amicable partings.

Child of the Eighties I am. Big hair, bad attitude. We just said no, saw terrorists in every country, and fled to the streets. Well, every generation has it's war, I guess. Well written

Wow, such great imagery. I didn't see the life connection coming so it was all the more compelling. Good work again sir!

It is sad indeed sir Jacob that man has to wage wars for many reasons. I feel you on this one. Your voice is loud and clear. Your message is to save humanity from its evils. Wonderful writes with great messaging.
