Things sometimes fall from the tree of life and go unrecovered; birds unable to fly to the nest again, acorns broken or carried away by hungry squirrels, hopes and ambitions that fade with time. Those acorns contain all they need to become mighty oaks but potential doesn't always equal success. I point this out when referring to I.Q. because I've seen and known too many geniuses with undeveloped or underdeveloped potential. Everything takes hard work and sometimes, a bit of luck as well. I'm still working at my craft and hope to be until I die. Whether poetic seeds I drop ever come to any sort of fruition in the minds of my readers I have no control over. But I do what trees do; as long as I live I keep producing them. And like the acorns, most folks seem to think I'm nuts. ;) I enjoyed the read!

we will be working on our craft as long as we breathe,
thank you, Fabian,

This is beautiful sadness, it takes me through my personal history, the loss of friends, extended family, my parents and the loss of my son all the loss but so blessed at the same time to have had them. That’s where I go reading this, I truly admire this piece!
My mind wandered here J. Maple leaves remind me of how they have featured in your life and Vermont. We don't have many maple trees over here. I also started to think about how my life would have been without children. It certainly would have been different. Do people regret not having children? I feel sure some do. Life doesn't always turn out the way you plan it.
Wow! really your imagination is another thing. I feel I was in a loose dream... liquid dream, an experience from another world. I can almost hear your steps on the bed of maple leaves. that's inspiration and creation.
Really liked this one of yours Jacob..
Clever to use acorns as a metaphor...
but then again you always find wonderful metaphors to express your talent as an excellent poet.
