the smoldering

the smoldering

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the smoldering

I brushed by you

in a rage of fiery abutment

slightest touch

and I was burning for your love

scorched

enamored

no armor to withstand the heat

you smiled as if you knew me forever

then,

just walked on by

like I was a spectral heart

aflame

ashes causing your eyes to incinerate

me

into some purgatorial in-between

I could never escape.

ha ha, thank you, Bill,

I hope I never experience that feeling again! And yes, this is exactly what comes to mind, smoldering = purgatory. I just got the shivers. It’s like you took this from head. I was gonna say heart but I don’t have one for that lovey dovey doo doo ;) love it! Excellent writing!

thank you for your kind review, Patricia,

Totally smitten. Bitten it appears. There is a great deal of heat in these lines. However, the she here flashed her lovely smile and walked on by. That hurts.

ashes causing your eyes to incinerate me

fabulous line. Sounds like years later she still has that smoldering effect when reflecting on memories. This one has not been shaken off and forgotten.

The fire still lurks.

Great poem J, with much emotion on its well crafted lines.
