Panic

Panic

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Panic

I was chirping in sync

with some chickadee

nesting in my boredom

the blue jay heard us

and growled beaky sounds

set sights on our ennui

attacked with fervor

screaming his blue jay words

not so eloquently

we imploded

the nest exploded

the chickadee and I

interposed sanctions

to stop the massacre of our mood

blue jay ignored

chickadee’s clipped confidence

froze

I rose to retaliate

that jay had had his day

the alliance struck

the sky cleared

no blue jays left on my block

the chickadee laid to rest

the chirping subsided

the blue monster is dead

the screaming's still in my head

the memories nesting forever

there.

I have to wonder if the blue jay's name was Vladimir. On the other hand, he could be the New York subway shooter. There is a variety of violent people to choose from these days.

Wouldn't deny it. Thank you, John,

Seems a bit like the War Crimes in Ukraine… Barbaric Blue Jays… Nests need to be protected. Bad Birds need to be sent to Alcatraz … “Do unto others as they do unto you” is my Golden Rule. gently, Pat

Another very cleaver write dear Jacob.. Love the metaphors stirring us into our own thoughts about, oh so many things.
That dog gone blue jay...what a pain he was..
real or imagined his was a delightful poem to wake up to on the cold and dark morning here in Costa Blanca North.

My mistress says I musn't eat birds but I'd pounce on the Blue Jay and eat him in one swipe for you, right away! I like the end here. No nuisance chirping and plenty of memories nesting in peace. A lovely story, Jacob.

Thank you for your kind words, Dhara,

The blue Jay got his comeuppance. Pleased to know that a bully met his match. So easy to flatten the confidence of another. Hurrah for the hero who stepped up to the plate.

thanks Chris....different Blue Jay.

Did you kill a J-bird or an intrusive Jay? And was it with words or a well-placed zinger to the throat? --- Oh, poor little jay, doing what Jays do, annoy.
