A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Poem

arboretum...

expanse of flowers

there are gravestones too

not ordinary plaques to the dead

but arrivals of souls

implicated in wondrous felony

a grip of sod

ashes flung about

in disarray

like exposed seeds

of sorrowful bloom

when later comes earlier

than expectations of grieving

she is there with him

holding hands under the dirt of eternity

bodies touching in earnest

not unrest

what is one more flower

to the likes of the dead

they have consumed existence

for all it's worth

and loved

until the weeds possess

the requiem

i loved you traveling,

present,

moved on

but i have not.

" ...what is one more flower to the likes of the dead." Really strong thought to punctuate an enjoyable and spiritual write. Well done.

Thank you, Jim,

And so, you shall, and shall all the others, but behind you do leave a whisper.

I like that, yes....thank you, JE,

Flowers don't last. Don't pick them grandma said. What use are they for the dead, I ask myself, though I still do. The memories will linger a life time though and I am so thankful for all the loving memories I have of my dearly loved and departed. I will plant a tree for my mother. An English oak, it will remind me of her strength.

Your mother will love that oak, Chris....she will.

We have flowers for the sick, flowers for the dead, flowers for anniversaries and birthdays and saying I love you. Mostly, they are temporary beauty; already cut and dying before they are purchased. Maybe we should plant trees instead and hope the roots will take hold like feelings in our hearts that we long to express; reaching for the sky in gowns of green to sing the rebirth of Spring. Nothing truly ever goes away. But things change and life adjusts. I enjoyed this. F.

thank you for your insightful words, Fabian,

WT...This is one of those that has too many lines that cut you to the soul and leave you bleeding months after the wound has closed, BUT for me, "and loved
until the weeds possess" hit the mark... something in that line that takes you hard like a generation passing by or silence that leads to your following stanza where you throw everything into the pain with an eloquence immortal.

"Poem" is damn right and haven't seen it very often but I like and feel it to the bone and on and on and on...this one is special J. Thanks!

thank you for your kind review, Perdition,

Oh wow! Yes! Now that is profound poetry! Every stanza, every line, every word is thoughtful and sad, I don’t know why but I love these poems, they make me feel deep down in places I forget, I think. Geeze, you’re such a fantastic poet!

Well, there are many fishes in the sea and, in this case many more flowers in the arboretum. Her loss indeed Jacob. From your account, she moved on. Who cares???
It hurts but what can we do? It feels like death within.
Whoeee...
